The Crime On May 29, 1999, Patricia Blackmon, age 29, called 9-1-1 in Dothan, Alabama since her little girl Dominiqua was not relaxing. At the point when paramedics showed up at Blackmons manufactured home, they discovered Dominiqua lying on the floor of the main room she was wearing just a diaper and blood-drenched socks, was shrouded in regurgitation, and she was not relaxing. There was a huge knock on her temple and blood on her chest. After the paramedics endeavored to restore her, she was shipped to Flowers Hospital Emergency Room where she kicked the bucket not long after showing up. Two specialists, one of them beingà Dominiquas pediatrician, Dr. Robert Head, analyzed the youngster and found that she had different wounds and injuries and an engraving of the sole of a shoe on her chest. They additionally watched a few more seasoned scars on Dominiqua, that were from past wounds and in different phases of mending. The Autopsy Remembered for the 30 separate wounds found on her body, the clinical inspector Dr. Alfredo Parades discovered wounds on the forward portion of her lower chest and upper midsection and around the correct crotch. She had additionally endured a broken leg. He likewise found that Dominiqua had two broken bones and numerous different wounds that were in different phases of recuperating. Marches presumed that her passing was expected toâ multiple gruff power wounds to her head, chest, midsection, and extremities.à Another disclosure found on Dominiqua was an engraving of the sole of a shoe on her chest that was so unmistakably characterized that it was caught in a photo taken by the specialist. The Trial Dr. James Downs, boss clinical analyst for the State of Alabama, affirmed that he thought about the pictures taken of the shoe print to shoes Blackmon was wearing upon the arrival of the homicide. It was his supposition that the sole of the shoes coordinated the engraving installed in Dominiquas chest. Downs likewise said that he believedà Dominiqua was hit with a pool sign bringing about her latest wounds. Wayne Johnson, Blackmons father-in-law declaration demonstrated that Blackmon was the main individual thinking about Dominiqua on the night of the homicide, up until the time the paramedics showed up at Blackmons home at around 9:30 p.m. Johnson affirmed that on the night Dominiqua was murdered, he saw Dominiquaâ earlier at night and she appeared to be fine, playing and acting ordinarily. He said Blackmon and Dominiqua left his home at around 8 p.m. A pursuit of Blackmons manufactured house revealed a few blood-splattered things. Criminological tests found the blood on a wrecked pool signal, a childs T-shirt, a pink level bed sheet, a blanket, and two napkins. The blood found on the entirety of the things coordinated Dominiquas blood. Blackmons Defense With all due respect, Blackmon said that the youngster was harmed when she tumbled off of the bed. Blackmon called a few character observers to affirm with all due respect. Judy Whatley, a worker of the Department of Human Resources, said that as she would see it, Blackmon and Dominiqua had a decent relationship. Whatley had contact with Dominiqua and Blackmon once per month for five months before August 1998. Tammy Freeman, Blackmons neighbor, affirmed that she as often as possible left her youngsters under Blackmons care. Indicted The jury indicted Blackmon for capital homicide. A different condemning hearing was held, at which the State depended on the exasperating situation that the homicide was particularly grievous, monstrous, or merciless to help a capital punishment. After the condemning hearing the jury, by a vote of 10 to two, suggested capital punishment. Bids In August 2005, Blackmon spoke to the court, contending that the State neglected to demonstrate that the homicide was particularly, egregious, monstrous, or barbarous when contrasted with other capital murders.à She contended that the State neglected to demonstrate that Dominiqua was cognizant during any of theâ attacks and that she endured. Blackmon accepted that Dominiqua was thumped oblivious before Blackmon beat her, and as aâ result, the youngster didn't feel the agony of being beaten. Her intrigue was turned down. Patricia Blackmon now sits waiting for capital punishment at Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka, Alabama.

Is Psychological Debriefing Harmful to Trauma Survivors
Is Psychological Debriefing Harmful to Trauma Survivors Calamities and unwanted happenings, for example, mishaps are related with present moment and long haul impacts (Bisson, 2002). Most overcomers of mishaps, floods and psychological militant assaults may experience the ill effects of injury. Promoting We will compose a custom article test on Is Psychological Debriefing Harmful to Trauma Survivors? explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Most associations have been instrumental in delivering social strong administrations to turn away advancement of significant issues. One of such mediations is Psychological Debriefing (PD). It is anyway imperative to value that not all have bolstered the intercession. Award Devilly and Peter Cotton share the view that PD is hurtful in the recuperation procedure of injury survivors. Mitchell is of the opposite supposition. This paper gives a basic examination of the authorsââ¬â¢ stands. The paper likewise contrasts these perspectives and those of the contemporary research. Realities abo ut Psychological Debriefing Psychological questioning is typically completed by associations for valid justifications. Devilly and Cotton see it as passionate emergency treatment managed to injury survivors. PD is a piece of the mediations of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Devilly and Cotton are of the view that no association would deliberately ignore towards injury survivors. This mediation has made PD one of the most generally utilized methods (Bisson, 2002). They consider the utilization of the mediation a standard practice for associations particularly in circumstances that trigger mental trouble. Bank thefts, fire flare-ups and cataclysmic events are genuine models (Bryant, 2002). Mitchell, then again, proposes that the utilization of PD may for sure be across the board. In any case, he underlines that lone prepared people should deal with it. The treatment of PD by undeveloped people makes it hard to address issues of injury. The way that PD just enhancements psychoth erapy is upheld very much bolstered. In like manner, PD ought not be seen as an option in contrast to psychotherapy. Or maybe, it is an emergency mediation measure that offers social help to injury survivors (Mayou, 2000). Conclusions Regarding PD Devilly and Cotton are of the sentiment that Critical occurrence Stress Management (CISM) and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) are one. They indicate that most investigations including CISD have been clarified in the CISM scope. Note that this suggestion isn't upheld convincingly. Publicizing Looking for article on brain research? Broad utilization of an intercession that isn't completely upheld by look into is basic. Most associations receive PD strategies after horrendous encounters (Bryant, 2002). These procedures are respected to go past ââ¬Ëemotional first-aidâ â¬â¢. Mitchell anyway has various suppositions with respect to PD. CISD and CISM are two words that are utilized solely. Mitchell avows that CISD is a procedure inside CISM. While CISM alludes to the field, CISD alludes to the gathering procedure in the intercession of awful encounters. IN ADDITION, Mitchell affirms that much research has been completed to approve the utilization of PD in dealing with injury cases. PD is Harmful to Survivors of Trauma Most therapists are of the view that CISM and CISD relieve the effects of long haul poor working (Mayou, 2000). Studies show that Post Trauma Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a potential probability particularly for those presented to unpleasant occasion (Bryant, 2002). Devilly and Cotton agree that history of stress is a prime hazard factor for despondency. PD expanded the likelihood of creating PTSD. Studies demonstrate that PD mediations were more awful than no-intercessions most definitely. The states of individuals who got CISD weakene d with respect to other PTSD manifestations AND recuperation. Devilly and Cotton concur that a solid workforce means a gainful workforce. Be that as it may, authoritative clinical intercessions have demonstrated practically no consequences for the presentation results. The best issue has is still on creating mediations that turn away debilitated workforce after injury. PD is viewed as device that guarantees that associations are shielded from case. Howellââ¬â¢s case means that CISD are generally directed on grounds of helping the damaged. Devilly and Cotton neglected to address a few issues in their examination. Devilly and Cotton neglected to finish up on the CISM/CISD banter. An individual who relies upon their investigation to recognize the two will be progressively befuddled. PD isn't Harmful to Survivors of Trauma Mitchell demands that PD is certifiably not a destructive intercession for injury survivors. He demands that PD isn't horrible psychological oppression as Devilly and Cotton indicate. The WTO besieging in 2001 was a worldwide issue that called for quick intercession. The utilization of prepared cops to offer questioning meetings to the survivors of the psychological warfare assault was exemplary (Deahl, 2000). This affirms the way that appropriately prepared people produce constructive results. Publicizing We will compose a custom article test on Is Psychological Debriefing Harmful to Trauma Survivors? explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Single meeting debriefings are basically contradicted by numerous associations like The American Red Cross, Salvation Army and American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. CISD has been mistaken for single meeting debriefings. The disarray that exists among CISM and CISD has been tended to. It is viewed as off-base to compare the two. CISM is an immense field that fuses among numerous a few procedures, for example, CISD. The meaning of CISM in at any rate eight companion audited diaries is a reasonable authentication that to be sure the field is progressed and supported by enough writing. Notwithstanding the way that Mitchell demands that PD isn't unsafe, he neglects to give a few examples in which the intercession has demonstrated productive. Furthermore, he neglects to give the most suitable time when psychotherapy ought to be given. How Credible Were the Authors? The believability of the creators supporting and contradicting the intercession of PD shifts. Devilly and Cotton contend on grounds of deficient data. Their conversation opens entryways for more discussion. They show an open view towards issues of CISD, CISM and early mediations. It is anyway miserable to take note of that their investigation is prefaced on close to home grounds. They hint that Mitchell and Everly are ICISF (International Critical Incident Stress Foundation) chiefs. This case is affirmed bogus. The objectivity of their examination is imperiled by close to home contrasts. Mitchell is qu ick to counter the perspectives on his adversaries. Be that as it may, he neglects to truly persuade his crowd on why PG ought to be empowered. Devilly and Cotton give a basic investigation inside their contention. They propose other elective intercession rules that can be utilized instead of PD. This methodology gives a sign that future research with respect to elective mediations is very much grounded. Despite what might be expected, Mitchell neglects to give us future enhancements for PG intercessions which he guarantees require unique taking care of. Legitimate cases to help the effectiveness and achievement of PD are inadequate. Devilly and Cotton are Right the reality of the matter is that awful intercessions are extraordinary and require specific people. It is foolish to apply PD in circumstances where the casualties are uninformed of the suggestions related with the method (Bisson, 2002). Devilly and Cotton might be uninformed of the distinctions that exist among CISM and CI SD. In any case, the way that they give a point by point understanding to the two is encouraging.Advertising Searching for article on brain research? How about we check whether we can support you! Mitchell just sums up the writing by demanding that CISM joins CISD. The increases related with PD are not caught by any means. Utilization of terms, for example, multi-million dollar industry and injury the travel industry is misrepresented and lost. Note that the utilization of PD has just continued since no different mediations have been rehearsed. Devilly and Cotton demand that the utilization of PD has been far reaching for a few reasons. The way that associations dread case methods and feel socially liable for awful events is clear. Devilly and Cotton are along these lines right in their declaration that PD intercessions are hurtful .The mischief isn't just mental for PTSD casualties, yet in addition monetary for the associations that look for mental help for their workers. Contemporary Research Most research discoveries demonst rate that PD is destructive to injury survivors. The strategy is related with a few issues that limit its significance (Deahl, 2000). Studies show that a great many people experiencing PTSD deteriorate in the wake of being exposed to PD. Randomized Clinical Trials have neglected to give any generous advantages related with the methodology (Mayou, 2000). The comprehension of the social conduct is an essential towards directing a fruitful PD. PD directed in Sri Lanka after the 2004 Tsunami delivered significant disclosures (Deahl, 2000). It was hard for ââ¬Ëtraumatologistsââ¬â¢ to direct PDs adequately. Social numbness was the best hindrance towards the achievement. Sri Lankans were in this way rendered to be in a condition of refusal. A preliminary checking the proficiency of PD in mishap casualties demonstrated purposeless in Oxford (Hobbs, 2006). The way that PD is viewed as a demonstration of professionalizing pressure is obvious. The vast majority become more awful subseque nt to encountering

ââ¬ËMy Swordhand is Singingââ¬â¢ Develops Essay
This epic is based around a little town called Chust, in Romania. Chust is a little seventeenth century town encompassed by an enormous and vile wood, brimming with shadows of anxiety. The townspeople were scared of the wood, and all that it contained. They were careful about ââ¬Ëoutsidersââ¬â¢ and were driven by custom. They particularly had faith in the Miorita, a tune about a shepherd killed by his colleagues and through a sheep, he reaches out to his mom that he isn't dead however has gone to ââ¬Ëmarry a princess from an inaccessible land.ââ¬â¢ They put stock in vampires and demons and the Shadow Queen. Subside and Tomas carried on with a migrant life. They moved all around and were not acknowledged in Chust. They were wood-cutters and lived on a little island with streaming water around it. Dwindle doesn't comprehend the criticalness of this canal and thinks it is only an endeavor to attempt to bond with him. It was the first run through in quite a while where Peter and Tomas were cooperating and getting a charge out of it. It is their very own illustration presence; forlorn, confined and clandestine. Tomas has no enthusiasm for making companions and disregards society. This implies Peter doesnââ¬â¢t get the opportunity to make connections as they are continually moving near. This worsens his feeling of disengagement and causes him to dislike his dad more. Subside doesn't comprehend what Tomas was fleeing from, intellectually or truly. Before Peter was conceived, Tomas was selected to battle with King Michael, the ââ¬ËWinter Kingââ¬â¢. The battling was long and savage and there was bunches of slaughter. While attacking a little Turkish town, Peter found a blade. This was an extraordinary blade. It had the ability to murder vampires. ââ¬Å"The blade was made in a land were vampires were normal. This blade has the ability to vrykolakoi for good.â⬠Vrykolakoi are the living dead, spirits, getting away from cadavers. When Tomasââ¬â¢s spouse passed on bringing forth Peter, Tomas accepted his life wasnââ¬â¢t worth living. He had lost the main individual who had thought about him, who adored him. This was amusing in light of the fact that his activity was to return dead spirits who need to be alive and here he is with no will to live and needing to bite the dust. He doesnââ¬â¢t perceive the requirements of the living as he does the need of the dead. Tomas begins drinking to numb the torment of his wifeââ¬â¢s passing. This is one of the fundamental driver of Peter and Tomas having a discontinuous relationship. Tomas gets goaded as Peter consistently attempts to stop him drinking however Tomas considers it to be an intrusion of freewill. ââ¬Å"By the time Peter got inside, Tomas had just presented himself with a glass of rakia. ââ¬ËHave some?ââ¬â¢ he inquired. Diminish shook his head. ââ¬ËFor Godââ¬â¢s sake!ââ¬â¢ his dad yelled, all of a sudden. ââ¬ËFor Godââ¬â¢s purpose, drink with me for once!â⬠Subside is frightened of Tomas. He is scared by his dad. He feels that Tomas is considering him liable for his wifeââ¬â¢s passing. The live in their own universes. ââ¬Å"Who is ââ¬Ëweââ¬â¢? There is no ââ¬Ëweââ¬â¢ here.â⬠At the point when Peter was 5, Tomas had made him a wooden goose. Tomas was exceptionally talented at carpentry and it was an excellent gem, an endowment of affection. In an attack of fury, Tomas demolished the goose. By doing this he was breaking any bond that he had made with Peter. Diminish attempted to make another goose, yet it was never as acceptable. This represents their relationship, never to be in the same class as it used to be. As Peter was growing up, Tomas misled him to shield reality from coming out about his past. At whatever point Peter went into Chust to convey logs, he would return with stories. Anecdotes about herds of sheep being assaulted and individuals dieing. Subside would tell Tomas of these however he would be contemptuous of them, and me for trusting them. ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s a wide range of disturbance in the villageââ¬â¢, Peter said. ââ¬ËSheep have been assaulted in their sheds.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËSo the wolves are getting eager. What of it?ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËItââ¬â¢s not wolves. Well thatââ¬â¢s what theyââ¬â¢re saying in Chustââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËPah!ââ¬â¢ Tomas spat on the floor. ââ¬ËIdiots! Also, youââ¬â¢re and nitwit too for listeningâ⬠. For whatever length of time that Peter could recall, Tomas had a case. Tomas had stated, ââ¬ËDo not look in the container under any circumstancesââ¬â¢. For Peter, this is simply one more puzzle about his dad and weakens their relationship. Toward the finish of this novel, Tomas rode into the horde of prisoners and began killing them to the ground. Tomas realized he was going to bite the dust and this was a last exertion to show Peter that he constantly cherished him and that he was a decent dad. As soon Tomas was immersed by the vampires, Peter promptly got the blade and battled until they were all dead. This is know as the ââ¬ËElizabethan Revenge Tragedyââ¬â¢ expressing that is youââ¬â¢re father bites the dust you should vindicate his passing. At the point when Peter returned from the fight he found a wooden goose in the device shed. This was to represent that he has moved all around for his entire life and he should continue moving, similar to a flying creature. ââ¬Å"Tomasââ¬â¢ eyes were shut, yet in his psyche he could see Peter bending and stroking the cutting edge from side to side. ââ¬ËThatââ¬â¢s it. Feel it.ââ¬â¢ In his heart, he heard Peterââ¬â¢s answer. ââ¬ËYes, Father. My swordhand is singing.ââ¬â¢

Supermassive Black Holes Galactic Behemoths
Theres a supermassive black holeà at the center of our galaxy. It cant be seen directly through telescopes or with our eyes, but astronomers know its there.à In fact, there are supermassive black holes at the hearts of many galaxies.à How do astronomers know these monsters lurk in the galactic cores? They use a variety of methods to study light as it passes by a black hole and they also study the region around a black hole to understand how it affects nearby clouds of gas, dust, and even stars.à Currently, the supermassive black hole in the Milky Way, called Sagittarius A*, is a fairly quiet one, and astronomers monitor it in many wavelengths of light to understand its actions. Why The Fascination with Black Holes? Black holes are a favorite in science fiction stories and media. Sometimes theyre used as a plot device to enable some kind ofà interstellar travelà trick. Or, they get featured inà time travel or some other important element of a story. As fascinating as such tales are, the reality behind these weird behemoths is more intriguing than writers can imagine. What are the facts surrounding supermassive black holes? Is there any science behind the science fictionà depictions of supermassive black holes? Lets find out. What Are Supermassive Black Holes? Generally, supermassive black holes are just what their name says: really, really massive black holes. They measure in the hundreds of thousands of solar masses (one solar mass equals the mass of the Sun) up to billions of solar masses. They possess immense power and wield incredible influence over their galaxies. Gravitational pull of suspected black hole forms a frisbee-like disk of cool gas, at the core of a galaxy. Later Hubble observations another galaxy confirmed the reality of monstrous black holes gravitational sink holes that trap everything, even light. L. Ferrarese (Johns Hopkins University) and NASA Most supermassive black holes exist in the cores of galaxies. That central location allows them to (at least partially) help hold galaxies together. Their gravity is so immense, because of their incredible mass, that even stars hundreds of thousands of light years away are bound in orbit around them and the galaxy cores they inhabit. Black Holes and Their Incredible Densities Whenever astronomers talk about black holes, the main property they use that sets black holes apart other normal objects in the universe is density. This is the amount of stuff packed into the volume of a black hole. The density at the cores of black holes is so high that it essentially becomes infinite. Specifically, the volume (the amount of space a black hole and its hidden mass takes up) approaches zero. That means its little more than a tiny pinpoint in space, but that tiny dot, called a singularity, contains an incredible amount of mass. That makes it incredibly dense. That density is spread out throughout the entire region of the black hole, from the singularity to the event horizon (which is the point where the gravity of the black hole is too strong for anything to resist.à A model of a black hole surrounded by heated ionized) material. This may be what the black hole in the Milky Way looks like. Brandon DeFrise Carter, CC0, Wikimedia.à à à That sounds as if the interior of the black hole (beyond the event horizon) could be incredibly crushed, with no room. Interestingly, theres a thought experiment that says the average density of supermassive black holes can actually be less than the very air humans breathe. In fact, the greater the mass, the less dense the supermassive black hole is, if one considers the whole volume of the area from the singularity to the event horizon. The mass would be distributed through that region, with more mass at the singularity than in the outskirts.à If thats true, then it would not only be possible to approach a supermassive black hole, one could theoretically fall into a supermassive black hole and survive for quite some time until getting close to the singularity. However, theres one big problem: gravity. Its so strong that anything swooping past the event horizon would be torn apart by the extreme gravitational pull. So much for wormhole travel!à How Do Supermassive Black Holes Form? The formation of supermassive black holes is still one of the mysteries of astrophysics. Normal black holes are the core remnants left behind from the supernova explosion of a massive star. The more massive the star, the more massive the black hole left behind. One could, therefore, assume that supermassive black holes are created from the collapse of a supermassive star. The problem is that few such stars have been detected. Moreover, physics tells us that they shouldnt even exist in the first place. However, they do. The most massive stars are dozens to a hundred times the mass of the Sun. A few rare hypergiants may be up to 300 stellar masses. Still, even these monsters are a far cry from the types of masses that would be needed to create a supermassive black hole. To put it bluntly: a LOT more mass is needed to make a supermassive black hole than is contained in even the most supermassive stars.à The collision of two black holes holesââ¬âa tremendously powerful event detected for the first time ever by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, or LIGOââ¬âis seen in this still from a computer simulation. LIGO detected gravitational waves, or ripples in space and time generated as the black holes spiraled in toward each other, collided, and merged. This simulation shows how the merger would appear to our eyes if we could somehow travel in a spaceship for a closer look. It was created by solving equations from Albert Einsteins general theory of relativity using the LIGO data. LIGO/CalTech So, if these objects arent created in the traditional fashion of other black holes, where do theà monster black holes come from? The leading idea is that they formed as much-smaller black holes to build big ones. Eventually, the build-up of mass would lead to the creation of a supermassive black hole. That is a hierarchical theory of building a supermassive black hole. There are some problems with that theory because it requires the study of intermediate mass supermassive black holes. They would be the in b between step from smaller black holes to the supermassive monsters. Astronomers are starting to detect more of these and study their particular characteristics to fill in the gaps in the hierarchical theory.à Black Holes, the Big Bang,à and Mergers Another leading theory about the creation of supermassive black holes is that they formed in the first moments following the Big Bang. Of course, not everything is completely understood about the conditions during that timeà in order to figure out how black holes played a role and what spurred their formation.à Observations of the known supermassive and intermediate-mass black holes suggest that the merger theory is likely the simplest explanation. Examination of the oldest, most distant and massive supermassive black holes,à quasars specifically, shows there is evidence thatà the merger of many galaxiesà played a role. When galaxies merge, it appears their black holes do, too.à Mergers play a role in shaping the galaxies we see today, and so it makes sense that their central black holes may come along for the ride and grow along with the galaxies. Interestingly, when those black holes merge, they send out a lot of energy. The action also emits gravitational waves, which astronomers are just now able to measure. If mergers are the answer, then they supply a partial solution to the intermediate black hole problem. In either case, the answer is not clear, yet. Much more work needs to be done to observe and characterize galaxies and their black holes. Science in the Science Fiction Getting back to science fiction and black holes, there are properties that completely bend the mind that writers have used. Stories of faster than light travel, interstellar travel and time travel pervade science fiction novels. There are even theories that black holes are gateways to alternative universes. Two spaceships enter a wormhole in outer space to get to a universe in another part of the galaxy. Corey Ford/Stocktrek Images So is any evidence to support any of these ideas? Actually, yes, although only in very extreme circumstances. The idea of using black holes as wormholes that somehow connect us with the other side of the universe has been around for decades. Its a great and fanciful fantasy that probably wont become reality anytime soon. The possibilities have even been calculated using serious physics and general relativity. So, theoretically, these things could happen, as was shown in the 2014 movie Interstellar. The physicist who worked with the filmmakers came up with some theoretical ideas that supported the film and worked scientifically. However, the technology required is still not available and a variety of special conditions need to be satisfied.à But who knows ââ¬âà much of the technology that humans use for flight today was also once thought impossible.à Fast Facts Supermassive black holes exist at the hearts of many galaxies, including the Milky Way.Some galaxies, such as the Andromeda Galaxy, may have more than one of these monsters. When galaxies merge, their black holes can merge, too.Supermassive black holes can have up to billions of stellar masses hidden inside. Our own Milky Way has a supermassive black hole called Sagittarius A* Sources Mohon, Lee. ââ¬Å"Supermassive Black Holes Are Outgrowing Their Galaxies.â⬠à NASA, NASA, 15 Feb. 2018, www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/chandra/news/supermassive-black-holes-are-outgrowing-their-galaxies.html.Saplakoglu, Yasemin. ââ¬Å"Zeroing In on How Supermassive Black Holes Formed.â⬠à Scientific American, 29 Sept. 2017, www.scientificamerican.com/article/zeroing-in-on-how-supermassive-black-holes-formed1/.ââ¬Å"Supermassive Black Hole | COSMOS.â⬠à Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing, astronomy.swin.edu.au/cosmos/s/supermassive black hole. Police Brutality And The Racism It Fosters Essay - 1710 Words
Police Brutality and the Racism It Fosters A controversial topic for decades, one issue that has made a noticeable impact in modern day society, especially in the year of 2015, is that of police brutality. Stemming from deep-rooted and institutionalized racism within law enforcement and other surrounding fields, it has sparked a firestorm of opposition, with many American citizens up in arms over the target thatââ¬â¢s been seemingly casted on the backs of the black community. Despite the various protocols that have been implemented as a means of placing a more critical eye on law enforcement, we are still seeing more and more cases of excessive police force being committed daily without any sort of justice for these victims. The idea that an officer on duty has more legal protection than that of a normal civilian must have some merit, as a study done by Cato Institute found that ââ¬Å"When police officers are charged, they are convicted at a lower rate than people in the gener al populace.â⬠(Elinson and Palazzolo). By granting these officers more rights and not holding them to same authoritative ruling regular citizens are ordered to follow, it allows for corruption and discrimination in the forces that are expected to help us. Without reprimanding the police for violation of conduct, we will continue to see the same issues arise for many years to come. Limitation in Raising External Sources of Finance Free Sample
Question: Discuss about the Source of Finance. Answer: Introduction Organization is consisted of several set of procedures in which various functions are performed to achieve certain goals and objectives. Capital is the amount of money engaged in the business functioning for smooth running of its value chain activities. In todays world each and every business needs money. Purpose External sources of finance means capital arranged from outside of business unlike retained earnings which are generated internally from the activity of business as have or being done for the purpose to earn profit from business (Brigham Ehrhardt, 2016). External source of finance are those finance where a businessmen arrange the finance by following modes e.g. equity share, bank loan, preferred stock ,debenture, term loan ,venture capital, leasing, hire purchase, trade credit, bank overdraft, and factoring which are used at the time of need of capital to start, run or grow businesses in significant manner (Arora, 2013). Scope It can either be raised through internal sources of finance or external sources of finance. Internal sources of finance refers to the process in which finance is raised from the business itself whereas, external sources of finance mean those sources of finance which are outside the business i.e. where funds are raised outside the business. Methodology There are several different sources of external finance for public listed companies which could be used for raising funds from the market. Some of the external sources are equity capital, debentures, venture capital, term loans, leasing, hire purchase, bank overdraft and factoring. Ideally, these types of funding are useful for the organizations having strong brand image. Limitation The main limitation in raising external sources of finance is limited number of options for organization for raising finance for company. All the data has been collected from primary and secondary sources which could be misrepresentative in calculating cost of capital and total issued capital. External source of finance for listed company having effective track record in market Issue of capital (Shares and debentures) Company is derived and owned by two separate persons. Directors are the persons who drive the company and shareholders are the real owners. In this kind of External source of finance, companies issue its equity share capital through (IPO/FPO) public issue in stock market (Hargovan Harris, 2011). This kind of finance is useful only for big Companies which are listed in Stock Exchanges. It becomes cumbersome process which put obligation on listed companies to comply with different legal formalities which are governed by lot of legislation (Beck, 2016). Advantages: These are the persons who have direct control over the management of the firm and it becomes dangerous for company if one person buy more than 51% share in market. They are entitled to dividend. Sharing of ownership right is the main characteristic of this finance. Therefore, right hold by shareholders is diluted to some extent (Fonseca, 2010). Disadvantages: Equity share holders bear the highest degree of risk of the company. Dividend is given only in case of profits after paying interest on debentures and tax(Hanssens, Deloof and Vanacker, 2015). In comparison to other sources of finance it carries higher floatation expenses of brokerage and underwriting commission. It is costly compare to debt finances because the return to shareholder will be given in form of bonus share or dividend which is not subject to TDS (Fonseca, A. (2010) Issues of Debenture It is a kind of a debt documents that are not secured by physical assistance. These are most common form of long term loans. They are redeemed on a fixed date and pay a fixed rate of interest. Debts is consider to be the cheaper mode of finance compared to equity. This is another source of finance which prefer by companies over the equity. In this case company has to pay interest to its debenture holders and it is tax deductible. It is presented to public and there for necessary legislation need to be comply with and the rest of the process off issuing is quite similar to shares (Zattoni Judge, 2012). Advantages: Issuing of debentures does not dilute the control of the existing shareholders of the company over the business. Also they are entitled to interest so profit does not get diluted. A unique characteristic of this finance is that it does not share ownership or share control like preference or equity share does. Disadvantages: Interest payment to debenture holder is an obligation. It also raises the leverage of the business (Turner, 2014). Issues of preferences shares These types of shares are ideally issued by listed company. In terms of payment of dividend and share capital at time of liquidation of company, holders of preference shares are given priority over equity share capital. Once the dividend has been declare in general meeting of company it has to be paid and cannot be ignored. There is another category off preferred share collected cumulative preference share where share has its dividend return accumulated till it is not paid. Advantages- Holders of preference shares are given priority over equity share capital. Disadvantage- They are not entitled for voting in general meeting. Borrowing for start up and growing business (In case, when company introduce new product or diversified business in market (Routledge, Sargeant, Jay 2014). Use of venture capital It is amount that is provided by venture capitalist to SME and early stage emerging firms that have high growth potential. These funds are provided by incubators who are ready to take high risk for high amount of profit (Platon, Frone Constantinescu, 2014). In this External source of finance Investors are the different set off people who invest in newly form company where probabilities of business growing high is either 100% or 0%. It is a new idea in the market on the basis of which company starts is business. The people who invest money in this business are known as capitalist they usually invest in a company at preliminary stage after applying accurate analysis (Barton and Wiseman, 2014). For instance, if a company takes investment of $ 20, 00,000 at a rate of 8% and compensating requirement is that company would have to pay at least 50% return to its venture capitalist if projects get successful. It provides that effective rate of borrowing amount would be 20, 00,000*50%= 10, 00,000 (Black Gilson,1998). Advantages: New innovative projects find a source of finance for them. In addition to this firms also provide information, resources, technical assistance to the emerging firms (Webley Werner, 2008). Disadvantages: It is uncertain in nature and benefits can be realized in long run only. Bank loan and advances External source of finance is obtained by listed companies as per their different need of finance from bank or financial institution. It is quite similar to debenture except issuing cost because common public is not involved in this process. Bank or financial institution do analysis of companys financial statement and plans to evaluate the debt services capacity of the company. Mortgage loan can also be provided by bank or financial institution by securing some assets of company. In addition to this, there is another loan which is called term loan. It is a monetary loan that is paid again in regular payments in determined time period. It usually ranges from one to ten years. Ideally a bank provides this source of finance as facilities to its clients. (Brigham and Ehrhardt, 2016). Advantages: Interest paid is tax deductible. There is no dilution of control in management since lenders has no right to vote. Interest paid is tax deductible. No dilution of control over the management since lenders has no right to vote (Needles and Crosson, 2007). Disadvantages: Firm is lawfully obliged to pay interest and main principle amount. It raises the financial leverage of the firm which in turn raises the cost of equitym (Frank, Shen, 2016). Company is legally obliged to pay interest amount and charged it against its profit. It also increases the financial leverage of the firm which in turn raises the cost of equity (Roth, 2017). Factoring of debtors Factoring is a financial business in which organizations sells its account receivable to another party at discount amount and in turn business gets a cash advance. In this source of finance Companies sells its debtors at discount to the buyers. These buyers are known as factors that collect the cash from debtors on behalf of company and charges commission for the consideration. There are two kind of factoring such as resource factoring and non resources factoring. Resource Factoring bears the bad debts of company while non resources do not bear the bad debts of business (Cholakova Clarysse, 2015). Advantages: It is lot more time saving in comparison to other sources. Instant cash can be used for growth prospects. Disadvantages: Once we accept cash for our receivables we give up a measure of control. Also factoring comes at higher price than loans (Qu, 2016). easing Hire Purchase In this External source of finance, there is an option in which company could enter into leasing contract with supplier of goods over payment of their debts to company. It helps businesses to block fewer amounts in its value chain activities. Generally, hire purchases option is provided by big suppliers and gives option to buy assets at the end of its terms (Davis Davis, 2011). Advantages- It helps in reduction of amount blocked in its value chain activities Disadvantage- It is costly process and increase total cost of production of company. Other sources of finance Trade credit is the facility generated by mutual agreement between creditors and company. It is given by creditors to business which allows it to make delay in its payment by some period. The POC (Period of credit) will depend on the terms and condition between business and creditors (Pinto Reis, 2017). Advantages- The period of credit will depend on the terms and condition between business and creditors. Disadvantages- sometime it becomes cumbersome process to take trade credit loan. There are several considerations which are to be kept in mind by organizations before raising funds from the market. Company would consider lock in period of making repayment of the money taken from the market. Financial cost and other interest amount which would be required. Risk associated with the choosing methods Cost of capital Attached liabilities with the options Selection of best financial course of action for raising finance for the company There is no set of rules and regulation for selecting source of finance for raising capital for the organization. However, endeavor should be made towards keeping low cost of capital and longer lock in period. It could be justified with the practical example that if company X is having requirement of $ 10, 00,000 amount then management department would use mix source of finance for raising capital for the organization. Company should use issue of equity shares to people for generating $ 5,00,000 and $ 5,00,000 could be used by other sources such as issue of debentures, factoring and banks loans. Weighted average cost of capital would play important role in assigning the accurate weight to all the capital parts of company. It helps company to reduce its financial leverage and risk associated with capital of organization. Critical evaluation by using WACC in raising long term finance This Critical evaluation by using WACC in raising long term finance could be determined by using an example. This will provide how a company could reduce its cost of overall capital by using different source of finance for raising capital for the company. If company X takes loan of $ 10, 00,000 from different banks such as $ 5, 00,000 loan from Wes bank $ 2, 00,000 loan from Barclays $ 3, 00,000 loan from American express Weighted average cost of capital would be computed with a view to compute required rate of return for the company. Lender Balance Rate Banks name Wes bank $ 5, 00,000 5% Banks name Barclays $ 2, 00,000 6% Banks name American express $ 3, 00,000 7% Weighted average cost of capital would be computed as below Portion of loan taken * Rate assigned to each loan by banks (5, 00,000/10, 00,000)*.20+ (3, 00,000/10, 00,000) *30+ (2, 00,000/10, 00,000)*.50 5%*.20+ 6%*.30+ 7%*.5 1+ 1.8+1.35 4.15 % Company has 4.15% minimum rate of return below which would not accept any project for its business functioning (Rao, 2011) Capital structure of three identical firms Capital structure- This is comprised with all the sources of capital which are used by company. It is analyzed that optimum level of capital structure helps organization to reduce the overall cost of capital for the business. For instance, If company is having requirement of $ 5, 00,000 then they could go for several sources of finance e.g. issues of shares, Issue of debts and other sources (venture capital fund, Bank loan and securitization of assets). These three companies require $ 50, 00,000 for financing their new projects. Particular Company A Company B Company C Cost of capital Capital required $ 50, 00,000 $ 50, 00,000 $ 50, 00,000 $ 50, 00,000 Issues of debts 50%= 25,00,000 60%= 30,00,000 70%= 35,00,000 10% Issues of equity 40%= 20,00,000 30%= 15,00,000 20%= 10,00,000 15% Other sources( Venture capital, factoring and other ways 10%= 5,00,000 10%= 5,00,000 10%= 5,00,000 10% It is analyzed that optimum level of capital structure helps organization to reduce the overall cost of capital for the business. Total cost of capital for Company A= 6, 00,000 25,00,00*10%= 2,50,000 20,00,000*15%= 3,00,000 5,00,000*10%= 50,00,000 Total cost of capital for Company B= $ 5, 75,000 30,00,00*10%= 3,00,000 15,00,000*15%= 2,25,000 5,00,000*10%= 50,000 Total cost of capital for Company C= $ 10, 00,000 35,00,000*10%= 3,50,000 10,00,000*15%= 1,50,000 5,00,000*10%= 5,00,000 Company B has least cost of capital. Therefore, it could be said that company B has optimum capital structure. Weighted average cost of capital Weighted average cost of capital provides rate at which company is expected to pay to all its security holders to finance its assets. It is also called as total Average cost of capital of organization. It is the least return that a company should earn on assets in order to satisfy its creditors, owners, or the other capital providers (Needles Crosson, 2007). It could be defined with the help of example that if company X proposes to raise capital by issuing of debts and loans from banks then the level of financial leverage could be gauged by using WACC. It provides to what extent company could entertain financial risk in its business. This financial risk is used by company to determine how company could reduce its cost of capital for overall business functioning (Aggarwal, et al. 2014). It is observed that company raises money from number of sources like shares, debt, options and governmental subsidies. There are different scriptures which provide several sources of finance which are considered by organizations to generate several returns (Brigham Ehrhardt, 2016).Under this, relative weights are assigned to each component in capital structure. The more critical the capital structure then it would more laborious is to calculate WACC. WACC is used by companies to observe if the asset projects available to them are meaningful to undertake (Minsky, 2015). There is following formula which could be used to calculate WACC of Company (Nirajini Priya, 2013). WACC = E/V*Re + D/V*Rd (1-Tc) Where Re = cost of equity Rd = cost of debt E = market value of the firms equity D = market value of the firms debt V = E+D (total value of the firms equity and debt) E/V = percentage of financing that is equity D/V = Percentage of financing that is debt Tc = corporate tax rate (Minnis and Sutherland, 2017). WACC is used as quantify tool to make a decision whether to spend. The WACC reflect the least amount rate of return at which a company produces value for the person who invests money. It serves as a reality test for the investors (Jensen, 2005). It could be inferred that WACC is altered by making dilution in the capital structure. It is assumed that cost of debt is not equal to cost of equity. The cost of equity is higher than cost of debt. So if there is increase in equity financing WACC will also increase. Equity finance has no collision on profitability but equity financing can make changes in ownership of existing shareholders because net income is divided among large number of shares. Equity financing leads to positive item in CFS and increase in common stock on the balance sheet (Jansen, 2016). If a firm raises debt money then there is a constructive item in financing section of CFS as well as add to in liabilities on the balance sheet. Debt financing includes principal which h as to be paid to lenders. Debt does not dilute ownership. However, interest payment on debt reduces net income as well as cash flow. Reduction in net income leads to tax benefit. Increase in debt causes rise in leverage ratio. In the event when company goes in winding up debt holders are senior to equity holder (Heal Palepu, 2012). Company should try to make a proper ratio between the various sources of finance so as to make a viable decision for the business. Another example could be used for the better understanding of this WACC. Suppose organizations is having 15% return from its business functioning and there are two options available for the company. It could either go for raising funds from issues of shares and dividend amount would be 15% on capital investment or issues of debts at the interest amount at 10%. In this case as per WACC, company should go for raising funds from issues of debentures in market (Knack Xu, 2017). Therefore, it could be inferred that WACC helps org anizations to choose right amount of long term sources of funds which reduce cost of capital of organization (Hirschey, 2008). Financial leverage is used to determine the companys sustainability position and its capability to pay off its short term and long term debts. WACC is used to measure the weight assigned to each capital component in organization. This provides how company could reduce its overall cost of capital. In addition to this, WACC is also used to gauge the minimum level of return that company needs to earn from its business functioning to create value. For instance, Company X has WACC of 15% then it is the minimum required return that company should earn from its business functioning. Otherwise it would result into destruction of capital value of company (Hargovan Harris, 2011). It could be defined with WACC example. For instance, banks and financial institutions who lend money to company X requires 12% interest rate and shareholders of the company has 15% dividend rate expectation. Now calculating WACC it is observed that both parts in company are weighted 50% each. Therefore, as per WACC calculation required rate of return to company from its business functioning would be 50%* 15%+ 50%* 12%= 13.5. Company by using WACC could easily determine which source of finance would result into less cost of capital (Frank Shen, 2016). Conclusion It is observed that when the funds are raised by the company in exchange of its shares then it is termed as equity financing. It is in contrast to debt capital. It is the main source of finance of a firm. It has certain advantages and disadvantages attached to it. Now in the end, it would be concluded that company should compute WACC first before raising funds from the market.
